FoodTally collects your email address (to create your account and send one-time sign-in codes), your name when you choose to provide it (for example through Sign in with Apple), and the food data you enter: foods on your shelf, what you log each day, your meal plans, and your nutrition goals. That's it. No contacts, no location, no advertising identifiers.
Your email is used for sign-in codes and account notices (like confirming account deletion). Your food data exists to show you your own dashboard, history, and progress. We do not sell or share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
When you use voice logging, your audio clip is sent to our server and to an AI provider (OpenAI) solely to transcribe it and estimate the foods and nutrition you described, then discarded. Voice recordings are not stored. Photos work the same way: nutrition label photos are read by OpenAI, and meal photos are analyzed by two AI providers (OpenAI and Anthropic) to recognize the foods on your plate, then discarded. Your account and food data are stored in a managed Postgres database (Neon) and are scoped to your account. Session tokens are stored in your device's secure keychain. If you subscribe to FoodTally+, the purchase is processed by Apple and subscription status is managed through RevenueCat; we never see your payment details.
Our website (tryfoodtally.com) uses privacy-friendly analytics to understand how visitors find and use the site. We collect anonymous, aggregated usage data only: page views, the site that referred you, and general location (country or region). This data is never sold and is not used to identify you as an individual. Inside the FoodTally app, we also record basic product events (like "onboarding completed") to see what to improve. These events are keyed to a random account identifier, never to your email address, and they never include the contents of your food log.
Settings, then Delete account permanently erases your account, your shelf, your logs, your plans, and your goals. This is immediate and irreversible. We'll email you a confirmation.
FoodTally is not directed at children under 13, and you must be at least 13 to create an account.
